February 14 - 16, 2020 10am - 5pm each day

We are extremely excited to offer this three day Navajo Weaving Workshop with Navajo Master Weaver Lynda Teller Pete, a 5th generation weaver from Two Grey Hills, NM on the Navajo Nation. Lynda and her sister, Barbara Teller Ornales are the authors of Spider Woman's Children: Navajo Weavers Today, a book that tells the history of Navajo weaving as well as introducing the weavers who are currently carrying on this tradition. Lynda also collaborated on the book Navajo Textiles: The Crane Collection at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science which houses one of the largest collections of Navajo textiles in the world. We are thrilled to offer you the chance to learn this craft from it's foremost expert! You will learn to weave the "Navajo way" on an upright loom and learn about the history and culture behind this weaving tradition.

The three day workshop is open both to beginners and those who have some experience with Navajo weaving. Class fee covers instruction, use of a pre-warped loom, and weaving tools needed during class. The looms for this class are on tables and are adjustable. They are designed by Lynda’s husband who is a mechanical engineer and is from a Navajo weaving family. Barbara and Lynda’s nephew, Terry Lee, is their Navajo weaving toolmaker, who makes beautiful weaving tools and specialty tools. Looms and tools are available for purchase at the end of class. Students will leave with a finished 6" x 8" weaving project off the loom and a printed booklet of weaving instruction.

Students will need to purchase the recommended yarn from Gauge the day of class as Lynda will help you pick out colors.

Space is limited to 12 students so that each one may receive personal attention.

Early bird fee: $425

Fee after January 17th: $500

An additional Warping Class is being offered on Monday, February 17th. Details for the class are here, and you may sign up either as an add-on to this registration or separately.

Cancellation policy: cancellations before February 4th will be refunded half the class fee. There will be no refunds for cancellations after February 4th.
