Needle felting seems like a complicated craft filled with all kinds of sharp and unfamiliar tools, but don't be too intimidated. If I gave you a pin, could you pop a balloon? If your answer is yes, then you’ve got the basics down already! Needle felting is basically poking a pile of wool with a needle until the fibers get tangled together. The more poking, the tighter the tangle, until you’ve created a solid object. In this beginner level class, we’ll start small and create mini-sculptures with just a handful of special needles and some loose roving wool. Spring is in the air, and Austin is all a twitter with migratory songbirds. We’ll use the birdsong as an inspiration to craft an adorable life-sized bird to perch in some special spot in your home. Perhaps a chickadee, or a Carolina wren! Together we’ll poke our way to perfection, we’ll stab our way to stupendousness, we’ll do some jaunty jabbing and, well, you get the idea!

Materials: roving included in price of class, an assortment of felting needles available for purchase at Gauge.
